PUSH – Fan fiction

Look, I know this is going to sound crazy and it’s going to be really, really hard to believe, but there are people, super-humans I guess you could call them, that have special abilities. Abilities that ‘normal’ humans don’t have.

Let me start at the beginning. At the end of the Second World War, when the U.S. discovered evidence of Hitler’s plan of having super-psychic soldiers, a secret Government agency known as Division was formed. It seeks out these people in order enlist them in their service. Enlist… right. Since when did ‘enlist’ mean ‘join us or die’?

Over the years these special people have been classified by Division according to their powers. Division has put a lot of time and money into studying out how these people tick and have actually figured out some of it, but for now I’ll just give you the basics:

Watchers have the ability to foresee the future, to varying degrees. They can get their visions at will and usually communicate what they see through drawings.

Movers are powerful individuals who have the ability to use telekinesis to move or levitate objects.

Pushers have the ability to implant memories, thoughts and emotions into the minds of other people. Some are powerful enough to control more than one person at a time.

Bleeders have the power of emitting a powerful ‘scream’ at such high frequencies that they can shatter glass, break bones or cause internal injuries.

Sniffs have the ability to ‘talk’ to items. By touching an object, they can see where it’s been and what happened to it or around it.

Shifters can temporarily change the physical appearance of things.

Wipers are skilled at either temporarily or permanently erasing memories.

Shadows block the vision of clairvoyants, such as the Sniffs and Watchers.

Stitches are psychic surgeons that can heal, using only their hands.

Phasers can pass themselves through solid objects.

Porters have the ability to teleport. Depending on the individual it may be just from place to place or from time to time.

Changers are shapeshifters in all meanings of the word. They can look like another person, male or female. They can also change their size. Since the formation of Division there has only been one Changer.

I know what you’re thinking, “How can these super-humans exist and no one know about them with today’s technology? Someone must have seen or heard or recorded something.”

You’re right.

You ever get home from work and not remember the drive home? Happens to everyone, right? Maybe a Pusher or a Wiper needed a ride from you.

Ever notice how a normal guy will break a leg or have surgery and he’s out for a month or two but pro athletes are back in the game faster than that? Chances are someone paid a Stich.

There are dozens of videos on YouTube of people popping up in the middle of the street or in a crowd when they weren’t there just a split second before. They’re brushed off as CGI or faked. They were most likely a Porter caught on video.

Everyone knows someone who has heard of someone who moved something that was normally too heavy from them to lift in a time of crisis. That gets explained away by adrenaline. Most likely it was a Mover.

Remember that famous magician back in the 90’s that went to China and walked through the Great Wall? I don’t want to give away any secrets but… Phaser.

Speaking of magicians, you ever seen a good one, I mean a really good one that you just were amazed by? Chances are they were a Shifter.

So yeah, they’re out there but regular folks just don’t want to see it so they explain it away.

Division is tracking all these super-humans down, using the ones they already have, and asking them to enlist. ‘For the good of humanity’ they say. The problem is that if you refuse, you die.

How do I know all this?

Oh, didn’t I tell you?

Let me introduce myself, I’m Royce. Royce Lowe.

You remember me saying that since around 1945 there’s only been one Changer? Yeah well, that wasn’t strictly true.

I’m one.

And now Division is coming for me.

Note: PUSH is a 2009 American science fiction action-thriller film directed by Paul McGuigan and written by David Bourla. It stars Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, and Djimon Hounsou. In my humble opinion it did not receive the attention it deserved.
